对教育回报的错误信息和偏见可能导致次优的教育选择。本研究探讨了初中生如何估计教育回报信息,以及这对他们教育追求的影响。在实地实验中,我们提供了总体和各性别的教育回报信息,评估学生在干预前后的信念和教育计划。结果显示,学生高估了两性教育回报,尤其是女性的回报。信息干预后,他们仍高估女性回报。女性学生估计她们自己的回报高于性别特定的平均水平。性别差异体现在自我收入估计与性别特定收入的对比中,但在与一般收入的对比中没有发现。总体教育回报信息扩大了教育计划中的性别差异,而各性别的回报信息则增加了男性的教育追求。
Inaccurate information and biased beliefs about the returns to education can lead to suboptimal educational choices. This study examines how middle school students estimate returns to education and its impact on their educational pursuits. In a field experiment, we provided general and gender-specific return-to-education information, assessing students' beliefs and educational plans before and after the information intervention. Results show students overestimate returns for both genders, especially for females. After receiving information, they still overestimate female returns. Female students consistently estimate their returns higher than gender-specific averages. Gender differences emerge in self-earning estimates compared to gender-specific, but not general earnings. General return information widened gender differences in educational planning, while gender-specific return information increased male educational pursuit.
