On the afternoon of April 2, 2018, the lecture entitled “Design and Implementation of Crowd Cohort Research” by Professor Ye Rongwei of Peking University School of Public Health was successfully held in Room 9503 of Jingshi Building. Professor Li Shi, Director of CCEHD, Executive Dean of China Institute of Income Distribution and professor of the School of Economics and Business Administration of Beijing Normal University, presided over the lecture. Fang Jin, Director of CCEHD, Deputy Secretary General of China Development Research Foundation, Researcher of the State Council Development Research Center, and CCEHD research group leader, Professor Wang Xiaoli from Peking University School of Public Health, Professor Luo Chuliang from the School of Economics and Business Administration of Beijing Normal University, Associate Professor Wan Haiyuan from China Institute of Income Distribution, Ms. Yang Xiuna Ms. Xu Yuqiu and Ms. Ma Yanyan, from China Development Research Foundation, as well as many other teachers and students, participated in the lecture.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Ye Rongwei mainly summarized the related concepts and theories of population cohort research, and introduced different research methods of epidemiology, focusing on three types of cohort studies: prospective cohort study, retrospective cohort study and bidirectional cohort study. A comparative analysis was carried out and the related derivative studies of the cohort study were further introduced. Then, Professor Ye Rongwei elaborated on the design and implementation of the cohort study, clearly pointing out that the high-quality scientific research data comes from science, rigorous design and strict organization and implementation, and further emphasizes the necessity of establishing a data management system and a specimen library through examples. Later, Professor Ye Rongwei introduced the data collation and analysis methods as well as the common bias and control theory.
Finally, Professor Ye Rongwei pointed out that the current population cohort research has both opportunities and challenges. China's population mobility is relatively small, special national conditions such as multi-ethnicity, health protection system covering the whole society, rapid development of IT, and the advent of the era of big data provide good conditions and opportunities. . However, due to the large-scale and long-term cohort study, which has the characteristics of long time period, large number of people and mixed data characteristics, it is a challenge to further develop the population cohort study. During the lecture, the teachers and students on the scene enthusiastically asked questions and actively expressed their views. Professor Ye Rongwei answered questions patiently and put forward his own views. The lecture ended successfully with warm applause.
